5G frequency auction continues

5G frequency auction continues

Despite the crisis, the 5G frequency auction in the Netherlands will continue according to plan in June. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate (EZK) has indicated that there is no reason for delay. Unfortunately, other EU Member States are postponing the auction due to the crisis.

5G Frequency Auction

In June the first frequency bands will be auctioned among market parties. These market parties had until 6 April to report to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Apart from the three major telecom providers KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile, it is still unknown which other parties are participating.

According to the EZK, there is no reason to shift the frequency auction to another moment, not even in connection with the crisis. We organize everything that is needed digitally: registration, meetings, consultations and even the auction. Despite the measures, we can continue with the auction.

It is positive that the auction continues, as 5G has a number of unique properties that have the potential to accelerate IoT. With 5G, organizations get more certainty that ‘devices and applications’ are available.
