KPN IOT has recently expanded its worldwide availability again. Nowadays it is possible to have coverage in the middle of the North Sea. With an M2M simcard from KPN IOT you can now use the Tampnet network. This is a special network that extends across the entire North Sea between the Netherlands, Great Britain and Norway.
About Tampnet
Tampnet was founded in 2001 in Stavanger (Norway) and provides the largest offshore communication network with high bandwidths. They supply this in both the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. The network is aimed at organizations involved in oil & gas extraction, wind energy or maritime affairs.
Tampnet’s mobile network provides a high-speed data connection based on 4G (LTE) technology. In the future, LTE-M will also be available for IoT applications. In addition to this data technology, a 2G network is also available for SMS and VOICE traffic.
Within KPN IOT, Tampnet has been made available within the Global Extended zone. That means that if you want to use it, you need to make sure that the device has a communication plan that allows this zone.
How far does the range in the North Sea go?
The range starts 12.5 kilometers from the coastline of the Netherlands (in international waters) and continues all the way to the far north of the North Sea near Norway.
