What is eUICC?

eUICC stands for Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card. It offers significant advantages, particularly for global roll-outs where a single Mobile Network Operator (MNO) cannot provide optimal conditions in all regions.

How Does eUICC Work?

The GSMA has developed the SGP.21 standard, which is fundamental to eUICC technology. This standard aims to standardize and simplify the implementation and management of eUICC. It includes various protocols and guidelines for Remote Sim Provisioning (RSP). eUICC technology integrates multiple IMSI profiles on the desired form factor SIM cards during production.

What Are the Advantages of eUICC Technology?

eUICC’s primary benefit is its ability to configure multiple mobile network profiles on a single SIM card. These profiles can be loaded during production or managed over the air (OTA). This flexibility leads to scalability and cost savings, and extends the service life of SIM cards.

Where is eUICC Often Deployed?

eUICC technology is widely used in the transport and logistics sector, where organizations operate internationally. Applications include fleet management, container tracking, and supply chain monitoring.

What Does the Future Look Like for eUICC?

The security protocols of eUICC are continually being enhanced, with advancements in encryption, authentication methods, and overall security. eUICC also benefits from the 5G rollout, which provides higher speeds, reduced data transfer latency, and multiple connection options. Consequently, eUICC and edge computing technologies can process data faster and more accurately, enabling better real-time decision-making for various applications.
