The phase-out of 2G and 3G networks now directly affects the Dutch market. KPN, VZ Maple and Odido have scheduled a shutdown date. Devices that rely on these networks for their connection now face a hard end date.
This 2G/3G sunset update lists the shutdowns added or changed over the past three months, organized by region. T-Mobile switched off 2G in the United States and Puerto Rico on 3 August 2026. In Europe, SFR (2G, 15 November 2026), Virgin Media O2 (2G, 31 December 2027) and Orange Spain are among those to follow. Organizations with 2G or 3G modules in the field should therefore schedule their migration now.

What do we recommend?
- Map out per country and per operator which devices still depend on 2G or 3G. Include the devices that fall back to one of these technologies when 4G is unavailable.
- Start the migration to 4G/5G, LTE-M or NB-IoT well before the shutdown date and give priority to devices in hard-to-reach locations.
- Actively monitor operators with the status “Planned”, as shutdown dates are still subject to change.
