Thingsdata is specialized in monitoring and managing roaming M2M simcards that use multiple networks. For example, in the Netherlands on KPN, T-Mobile and Vodafone, and also on multiple technologies (2G, 3G, 4G and 5G). The shutdown of both 2G and 3G networks in the coming years could affect device performance.
We continuously advise on the state of affairs of the technologies and, for example, one of the options a 4G growth strategy. Below is the current state of affairs:
KPN: 2G
It is expected to be shut down in 2025, although this has not yet been officially confirmed. 3G – will be switched off in January 2022. 4G & 5G – will of course continue to exist and be invested in.
T-Mobile
Will be disabled in November 2020. 3G – will be disabled in 2 years – official date to be confirmed. 4G & 5G – will of course continue to exist and be invested in.
Vodafone: 2G
It is expected to be shut down in 2025, although this has not yet been officially confirmed. 3G – will be shut down in February 2020. 4G & 5G – will of course continue to exist and be invested in.
